BTEC Professional Qualifications | Assessment Management

Post Graduate Diploma is suitable for people who work in a variety of learning and development environments, particularly colleges, universities, training providers and schools and provides you Qualified Teacher Status (QTLS) with quality assurance qualification. Learners can choose from units that look at, for example, the strategic environment, quality management and innovation, and the principles and practice of learning and assessment, as well as writing a research project. Assessment is by assignment. This qualification could enable progression onto a related Masters Degree programme.

Post Graduate  Diploma is a new qualification at level 7 in the National Qualifications Framework. It is a taught course geared to the needs of each profession, which seeks to provide access to vocational qualifications for those wishing to continue their professional development beyond level 6.

The syllabus is designed to be compatible with part-time, evening or day-release modes of study, but it is also suitable for full-time study if required.

Duration: 12 months Full Time, 12 – 18 months part time

Awardng Body: Edexcel and City & Guilds

(This Post Graduate diploma from Edexcel is integrated and merger with City & Guilds, DTLLS -Diploma- QTLS Qualification level 5 and 6)

Entry Requirement:

  • HNC/HND/Graduate Diploma in Education and Training or Bachelors degree from recognised university or college.
  • Level 5/6 Qualification from UK university
  • International qualification Higher School leaving certificate (intermediate) or equivalent with CEFR B2 Level ESOL/IELTS
  • Mature students over the age of 21 with no formal qualification but experience and another qualifications may be admitted at the discretion of the admission tutor
  • Learner should have Level 3 skills in the subject you intend to teach, though a qualification is optional.
International Students:
All international students are required to have a minimum of B1 or B2 level of English as per the CEFR. The new UKBA rules which have come into effect from 21st April 2011.

Semester 1 and 2

This induction is for new entrants to the Lifelong Learning Sector – you don’t need any prior teaching experience or qualifications. It also suits people working in the area already who want to gain official qualifications.

Upon completion of all 10 mandatory units and 2 optional units, students will be awarded Graduate Diploma in Education and Training (ESOL)

Students completing the DTLLS will be eligible to apply for QTLS.

Completion of the PGD course will allow learner to qualify for Qualified Teacher Status (QTLS).

The Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector could help the learner progress in a role as a: lull teacher in further, adult and community education, for example, as a further education lecturer lull teacher in work-based learning – full teacher in the voluntary sector.

This Diploma qualifies the learner for Qualified Teacher and Learning and Skills (QTLS) status. To gain full QTLS status, the next step after taking this qualification is to go through the process of professional formation with the Institute for learning (IFL).

Progression Route

Once the learners have achieved QTLS status, learners can meet their continuing professional development (CPD) requirement through an Award in Developing Embedded Approaches to Literacy, Language and Numeracy. If the learner decides to specialise in teaching Mathematics or English after taking the D I LLS qualification, the learner could progress on to an Additional Diploma:

  • Additional Diploma in leaching Mathematics (Numeracy) in the Lifelong Learning Sector
  • Additional Diploma in Teaching English (Literacy) in the Lifelong Learning Sector
  • Additional Diploma in Teaching English (ESOL) in the Lifelong Learning Sector.
