BTEC Higher National Diploma in Fine Art (September 2012)

This intensive, hands-on course allows you to develop your own conceptual and creative identity and will prepare you for a career in fine art. The course consists of a structured framework covered in core and optional units, which focus on the areas of disciplines in the field of Fine Art. After a broad introduction to Fine Art disciplines, where students can build further on their own creative tool kit, students will develop an individual and unique approach to both set and self-initiated projects.

Mode: Full-Time (36 – 40 weeks per academic year) /Part Time/Distance/E Learning 2 to 3 years
Fees:

  • UK Students: £2950 per annum.
  • Part Time/ Distance Learning (E Learning) £1950 per annum.
  • International Students: £4950 per academic year and registration or examination fees of the awarding body.

Entry Requirement:

  • 4 GCSEs with 2 GCE A Level
  • Level 3/4 Qualification or any associate diplomas in engineering or IT
  • International qualification Higher School leaving certificate (intermediate) with CEFR B1 Level ESOL/IELTS
  • Mature students over the age of 21 with no formal qualification but experience and another qualifications may be admitted at the digression of the admission tutor
International Students:
All international students are required to have a minimum of B1 or B2 level of English as per the CEFR. The new UKBA rules which have come into effect from 21st April 2011.

Core units: All five units must be taken

  2. Ideas Generation and Development in Art and Design
  3. Contextual and Cultural Referencing in Art and Design
  4. Professional Practice in Art and Design
  5. Project Design, Implementation and Evaluation

  2. Specialist Textiles Techniques and Processe
  3. Experimental Embroidered Textiles
  4. Pattern Drafting in Fashion
  5. Research and Development for Fashion Design
  6. CAD/CAM for Fashion and Textiles
Specialist Units –
  1. Digital Image Creation and Development
  2. Ideas in Context
  3. Research Project
  4. Personal and Professional Development
  5. Work-based Experience

How will I be assessed?

Assessment methods are varied and include written reports, presentations, critiques, portfolios and fashion shows.

Programmes of study combine a variety of teaching methods including formal lectures, workshops, seminars, group critiques and individual tutorials. Visits to exhibitions are included as part of the learning process.

BTEC HND/HNC in Fine Art is a foundation degree level and is highly valued by employers both in the UK and overseas, and can also count towards membership of professional bodies and other employer organisations.

 

On completion, you will be able to progress to employment or convert your HNC/D to a Bachelors Degree with extra one year study.

 

Progression Route

On completion of year 1 of the HND student may be awarded HNC (subject to credits obtained).

On completion of 2 years HND Students can use the pathway for a progression to final year for the degree BA/BSc or alternatively proceed to post graduate diploma Level 7.
