LEVEL 5 BTEC HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA IN INTERACTIVE MEDIA (Accredited by EDEXCEL)

Learners studying for BTEC Higher Nationals in Interactive Media will be expected to develop the following skills during the programme of study:
  • synthesis of a range of concepts, knowledge and skills relating to interactive media
  • application of complex theories to practical realistic work situations in the interactive media sector
  •  independence of approach to study and the generation of interactive media evidence
  •  ability to engage with complex and/or unpredictable situations in interactive media contexts
  • ability to take responsibility to manage and direct their own and others activities
  •  insight and judgment in relation to the margins and consequences of error
  •  research and investigative skills
  • responsive to change and ability to multitask
  • ability to innovate and work in a creative way.
Students will gain practical training with our partner Digital Media Television Network on various aspects of media including digital production, post production, audio, satellite technology, fiber optics, editing, direction, short film making etc.
 
BTEC Higher National Diploma
 
The 16-unit BTEC Higher National Diploma provides greater breadth and specialisation than the BTEC Higher National Certificate. Higher National Diplomas are mode free but are followed predominately by full-time learners. They allow progression into or within employment in the interactive media sector, either directly on achieving of the award or following further study to degree level.
 
The BTEC Higher National Diploma in Interactive Media provides opportunities for learners to apply their knowledge and practical skills in the workplace. Full-time learners have the opportunity to do this through formal work placements or their part-time employment experience. The qualification prepares learners for employment in the interactive media sector and will be suitable for learners who have already decided that they wish to enter this area of work. Some adult learners may wish to make the commitment required by this qualification in order to enter a specialist area of employment in interactive media or progress into higher education. Other learners may want to extend the specialism that they followed on the BTEC Higher National Certificate programme. Progression from this qualification may well be into or within employment in the interactive media sector.
 
The BTEC Higher National Diploma in Interactive Media mainly offers a progression route for learners who are studying a Diploma in Foundation Studies (Art and Design), a National Diploma in Design or a National Diploma in Art and Design and equalant to any foundation degree.
 
Learners studying on the BTEC Higher National Diploma will be able to either gain employment in the interactive media sector or continue their pathway studies at BA/BSc 1 year or MA at certain universities.

Entry Requirement
 
Qualifications and/or experience held by applicants, considering whether this profile shows an ability to progress to a Level 5 qualification. For learners who have recently been in education, the entry profile is likely to include one of the following:
 
  • A BTEC National Certificate or Diploma in Design or Art and Design
  •  An AVCE/Advanced GNVQ in an appropriate vocational area
  • A GCE Advanced level profile which demonstrates strong performance in a relevant subject or an adequate performance in more than one GCE subject. This profile is likely to be supported by GCSE grades at A* to C
  • Other related Level 3 qualifications
  • An Access to Higher Education Certificate awarded by an approved further education institution from UK or International Institute. (i.e. Pakistan, Indian sub continent Intermediate or FA/FSc)
  • Related work experience. Applicant may be considered without the above formal qualification who has related experience.

  • CBTEC Short Course Awards, Certificates and Diplomas are designed to provide focused and specialist work-related qualifications in a range of sectors. The qualifications can provide a specialist emphasis for learners following a general vocational programme of study. BTEC Short Courses offer a focused qualification for learners, particularly more mature learners, who wish to follow a short programme of study that is directly related to their work experience or to an aspect of employment that they wish to move into in due course.
  • On successful completion of these qualifications, learners may progress into or within employment and/or continue their study in the vocational area.
    • Level 3 vocational qualifications that can be taught alongside A levels
    • Attract both SCAAT and UCAS points.
    • Students develop deep, specialist, practical skills and understanding.
Edexcel Level 3 BTEC National Award in Media Production (Interactive Media)

The BTEC Higher National Diploma programme must contain a minimum of eight units designated at H2 level.
  • At H1 level the emphasis is on the application of knowledge, skills and understanding, use of conventions in the field of study, use of analytical skills and selection and organisation of information.
  • At H2 level the emphasis is on application and evaluation of contrasting ideas, principles, theories and practices, greater specialisation in the field of study, and an increasing independence in systematic enquiry and analysis.

Certificate for Audio Visual Industries Induction (Level 2) ** Subject to Accreditation

This Level 2 qualification is designed for new entrants and pre entrants and provides an overview of the requirements of working in the audio visual industries. The Certificate focuses on providing realistic information which will prepare learners for the realities of the industry and make them more employable.

It comprises of four units, all of which are mandatory. They cover areas such as employment rights and responsibilities (for both employers and freelancers), continuous professional development, working practices and protocols specific to these industries, health and safety, risk management and the new emerging technologies that new employees might encounter in their first job. 
To achieve full certification for the Level 2 Certificate in Audio Visual Industries Induction, candidates must complete all four units of the qualification as well as a synoptic test paper covering all following units.

  • Current and emerging technologies in the audio visual industries

Stagehands in Film and Television(Level 2, 3) **Subject to Accreditation

The NVQ for Stagehands in Film and Television is based on NOS developed by Skillset to meet industry demand for qualification for stagehands working in the film and TV industry.

This is the first NVQ developed specifically for stagehands and is available at levels 2 and 3. Skillset, employers, unions, colleges and training providers have worked together to develop the NOS and qualification, which allow stagehands to demonstrate the technical skills and knowledge required to work safely on productions. These are three separate qualifications aimed at specific job roles.

Higher Professional Diploma in Photo Imaging - Vocational (No. 4448 )

The Higher Professional Diploma in Photo Imaging is aimed at learners who want to gain high level photo imaging skills, both technical and business-related. The qualification is designed for those who want to work in areas such as fashion photography, portraiture, laboratory management and moving image production (video).

Qualification structure

To achieve the qualification learners must complete 12 units (6 mandatory and 6 optional units). The mandatory units are as follows:

  • Photographic Image Creation
  • Image Management - Film Recording and Darkroom Processes or Digital Recording and Electronic Manipulation
  • Visual Studies and Photographic Techniques
  • Business Planning for Photo Imaging*
  • Photographic Design and Reproduction.

How is the qualification delivered and assessed?

The qualification has been designed as a 480 guided learning hour programme and can be studied both part time or full time. It is designed primarily for those in work or with access to a work experience setting. Learners will be assessed by means of a centre-devised assignments, which reflect current work practices in the photographic industry. Each unit has its own assessment and will allow the learner to demonstrate that they have fulfilled the required outcomes and achieved the standard required.

Progression

Completing this qualification could provide the opportunity to progress on to either a related foundation or honours degree programme. It could form the first part (120 credits) of a related degree and allow the learner to fast-track to the second year of the related programme.
