Further Education Teaching Qualification


Certificate in Further Education Teaching - Vocational 4 

This certificate qualifies learners to teach full time and part time in further education, and is endorsed by FENTO as meeting the initial teaching requirements for further education. They should able to specialise in further, adult or community education. You can specialise in teaching English or Mathematics specialism, via City and Guild qualification.  The available routes:


  • Literacy
  • ESOL
  • Numeracy

Year 2: ESOL Award in Preparing to Teach in the LifeLong Learning Sector (PTLLS) and Certificate in Teaching in Lifelong Learning Sector (CTLLS) - Level 4 & 5

This introductory award provides a 'stepping stone' to  teaching in the lifelong learning sector, and the qualifications required of the associate and full teaching roles defined in the Qualified Teacher Framework.

This certificate covers the knowledge and skills required of the 'associate' teaching role, and meets the qualification requirement in England for those working towards ATLS status in the Qualified Teacher framework.

Language Skills
NOCN's qualifications in Language Skills aim to provide stepped opportunities for accrediting language skills and consist of units that are designed to allow them to be tailored to individual learner and workforce needs. The units in of each qualification are skills based and allow learners to develop their speaking, listening, reading and writing skills and the qualifications themselves have been developed in close consultation with the National Centre for Languages (CILT), and are mapped to the National Language Standards (revised) 2005

English Language

We normally expect learners wishing to undertake course to have IELTS 5.5 or its equivalent. Additional language support is available for learners who feel they would benefit from extra tuition. Learners will be assessed by a qualified Language specialist in order to ensure that they are placed at the correct class level.

Q: How do I improve my English?
A: The college has number of courses from GCSE English to ESOL (Level 1 to 6) and it is highly recommended international students should enrol on one of the English
